Computing at the EDGE - New Challenges for Service Provision
CSL contributed a chapter to the Book "Computing at the EDGE - New Challenges for Service Provision", already online and soon to be published in-paper by Springer. Dynamic hardware configuration in non-nominal conditions is a challenging undertaking, as it requires real-time characterization of hardware-software interaction. We discuss mechanisms to achieve dynamic operation at reduced CPU voltage margins. We then evaluate the trade-off between improved energy efficiency, the cost of software protection, and potential SLA penalties in large-scale cloud deployments.
